SPIRITUAL DIRECTION, SOUL CARE FORMATION, RETREATS, & END OF LIFE CARE

Luanne Hill

Luanne has been drawn to the work of ‘being with’ individuals for much of her life. Most of her career as a registered nurse was focused on the “birthing in” of life and the health of young and growing families. It was during her many years teaching nursing students that she realized that the thing she enjoyed the most about her work was getting to know her students as individuals, and hearing their story. This led her to study spiritual direction with Sustainable Faith in 2016. As a Type Four on the Enneagram, Luanne enjoys deep dive conversations with others to harvest the sacred nuggets of where the Divine is at work in each one of us. The practice of sitting with others in direction fits so well with her life-long interest in the birthing process. As John Philip Newell puts it, the role of a spiritual companion “is to midwife what is trying to come forth from deep within the human soul”. Recently, Luanne became more curious about the “birthing out” process of life as well and the importance of encouraging open conversations about death and dying. This led her to become certified as an End-of-Life Doula through Douglas College in 2019.

Luanne is married to Rick and over the years they have been involved in many shared ministry experiences. She is a mom to three adult children and has been so enriched by what their life partners have brought to the family circle. Luanne loves to create welcoming spaces, repurpose found objects, and sew felted wool sweater mittens in her spare time. Her favourite place to be in the warmer months is at their cabin retreat at Little Deer on Lake Winnipeg.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION, TRANSITIONAL COACHING & RETREATS

Rick Hill

Rick is passionate about helping people to connect with God. Deconstructing and reconstructing his own faith has been a lifelong adventure. He began to develop his people skills while hitchhiking home from high school sports practices and enjoyed learning about life from a variety of individuals. He is always curious about what makes someone tick. Everyone has a story, and that story has innate value.

After studying Chemistry at McMaster University (where he met Luanne - the second best thing that ever happened to him), Rick shifted his vocational direction and completed his seminary training. He has served as a youth pastor, church planter, lead pastor and in parachurch leadership positions. Since 2010, Rick’s primary focus has been consulting with local churches in transition. In all of these situations, Rick has been especially passionate about helping people to experience God on a deeper level, especially those folks who are on the fringes of faith.

Several years ago, the book “With” by Skye Jethani helped Rick to articulate his desire to experience life with God. As he entered the study and practice of spiritual direction, he began to acquire the practical tools that would facilitate his conversations with other spiritual seekers. This is his true vocation. Rick enjoys spending time with his far-flung offspring, new food experiences, and being in creation. He is usually optimistic about the Winnipeg Jets.
